since his administration assumed office last year

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed fears that
President Muhammadu Buhari is bent on Islamising Nigeria through the
adoption of policies that negate the secular nature of the country.
The association told newsmen at a briefing in Ondo state on Thursday, June 2, that there were strong indications that since Buhari assumed office last year, his administration had taken pro-Islamic policies which give reasons for credible apprehension.
The CAN Chairman in Ondo state, Reverend John Ayo Oladapo, expressed fears that the build-up of some of the policies of the federal government may result in a full-blown Sharia which Buhari was alleged to have promised Muslims in Nigeria.
According to Reverend Oladapo, some of the pro-Islam policies taken by the Buhari administration so far include the inclusion of Nigeria in the Saudi Arabia military coalition of Muslim/Arab nations which makes Nigeria a satellite state of Saudi Arabia.
And the president’s fiat and unilateral decision to enlist Nigeria in the 34-nation Muslim/Arab coalition negated what was expected to be the priority of the president which should be strengthening of democracy and economy and security for all.
He said: “Given the emotive and sensitive nature of this unilateral executive decision, it should have been handled by Mr President in line with our democratic culture through popular discussion and participation by the citizenry, or at least, through the National Assembly.”
In another development, President Muhammaudu Buhari has been urged by a socio-political group, Assembly of Concern Niger Delta People (ACNDP) to appoint his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, as special envoy to Niger Delta.
Speaking on the backdrop of threats by militants to continue relentless attacks on oil and gas installations in the region, the national coordinator of the group, Mr Eperemor Governor on Thursday, June 2, said the appointment of Jonathan as an envoy would help ease the situation in the Niger Delta region.
